Metanoia
/met-uh-NOY-uh/ ยท noun (Greek)
A fundamental transformation of mind, heart, or way of life — not regret over a past act, but a re-orientation of one's seeing.
Where it comes from
From μετά (meta, 'after, beyond') + νοῦς (nous, 'mind'). Literally: 'a change of mind' — but the depth runs further: a turning of one's whole orientation.
A small question
Metanoia is often translated 'repentance' in Christian texts, but earlier Greek philosophical use suggests a different shade. Which?
